Rotavirus remains the most common cause of severe acute gastroenteritis in infants and young children worldwide and is associated with approximately half a million childhood deaths each year. Rotavirus vaccine development progresses rapidly with major involvement from the international pharmaceutical industry and the creation of the GAVI-funded Rotavirus Vaccine Program. Recently, alternative vaccine candidates have been taken up by vaccine producers in developing countries. Although certain rotavirus vaccines have been licensed in local national settings, and some candidates have completed enormous safety and efficacy trials, none of the various candidates have shown their clinical efficacy in infants in the developing countries of Africa and Asia. Challenges to rotavirus vaccine development include the lack of efficacy data in infant populations most at risk of the disease; interaction with other routine EPI vaccines, especially OPV; safety issues such as the risk of intussusception and administration to HIVinfected infants. Finally, issues such as supply and price of the vaccines and equity of distribution of these new vaccines to the regions where they are most needed have not been creatively addressed yet by the international community nor the countries. In week-old LH treated between 3 and 12 weeks of age, glomerulosclerosis remained minimal or absent in all the rats ten weeks after treatment withdrawal Figure 2F, G, H ; . Losartan and the low dose of perindopril induced a persistent amelioration in arteriolar hypertrophy. It is noteworthy that, in terms of histological lesions, the high dose of perindopril was not more efficient than the low one.

The Venue was the Commonwealth Institute which was a central London location with good space for exhibitors and could accommodate three parallel sessions if required. For the programme the plan was to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Tolerance Lesley Brent was to re-present his 1953 paper. Professor F Fndrich was to speak on ES Cells for Tolerance Induction. The BTS dinner would be held at Middle Temple Hall. There was a possibility that Travel bursaries may be awarded at the meeting for the best papers. These would be awarded at the end of the meeting to encourage people to stay. The executive was discussing this idea with John Fabre. Birmingham 2004 The dates were to be confirmed and some more information was being gained before the final decision was made of where to hold the Congress it would either be in the University or the International Conventions Centre ; . Belfast 2005 This had been the only bid and had been accepted. The meeting would have some overlap with the Renal Association meeting that was also to be held in Belfast in 2005. Bids were invited for the 2006 Congress d ; Fellowships. Eight members had applied for the Wyeth and Morris travelling fellowships. Reviewers had been chosen and it was anticipated that the winners would be announced in June and pram.
